The bats, balls, and uniforms glow under black lights.
The Tri-City Chili Peppers, a college baseball team in Virginia, usually play night games under bright lights. But recently, the team played in the dark! The game was lit up by the neon glow of their uniforms, bases, bats, and baseballs!
To create this effect, workers set up black lights around the stadium. These lights send out ultraviolet (UV) light. This type of light is invisible to human eyes. The team spray-painted baseballs and ordered custom bats and uniforms. Their gear contained special chemicals. When UV light hits these chemicals, it causes them to glow.
The event, which the team called Cosmic Baseball, was a hit with fans and players! Since then, the Chili Peppers have played their glow-in-the-dark game across the country, putting a colorful spin on a traditional American sport!
