When Kathrin Barboza Márquez was in college, she went to hear a scientist speak about bats. After, she decided to spend her life studying these flying mammals. Now this biologist protects bats throughout South America, including in her home country of Bolivia.
She worked to create the first protected areas in South America for endangered bats. Barboza Márquez helps the Bolivian government use science to inform decisions. “I would like science to spur real conservation actions,” she says.
