In the game Animal Crossing: New Horizons, players create their own island community full of cute animal neighbors and colorful decorations. Now, you can add famous works of art to your island! Museums around the world created digital versions of their artworks for the game, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art (the Met) in New York City.
To turn a real-world masterpiece into an in-game decoration, the artwork is simplified into a grid of colored electronic dots. This grid is then turned into a QR code that you can scan with a Nintendo Switch. “We believe everyone can find a favorite artwork in the Met’s collection that they would love to experience every day,” says Sofie Andersen of the Met.
