Photographer Nathan Myhrvold believes snowflakes are natural works of art. But since they’re tiny and they melt quickly, snowflakes are difficult to photograph. So Myhrvold spent 18 months building a custom camera! It includes a special microscope lens and a high-speed LED flash to make sure the flakes stay frozen during a photo shoot. Myhrvold brings the camera to the coldest regions of North America, where temperatures drop as low as -4 degrees Fahrenheit! The result? Crisp, beautiful pictures of snowflakes.
